My Morning (Procrastination) Ritual

Do you have a morning ritual? Do you have a list of things to do before you begin working? I do. At first it was fifteen minutes, now it takes about an hour. I enjoy my morning ritual as it’s the perfect companion to my morning cup of coffee, but still, an hour. I wake up at 6:00 simply because I like to enjoy my coffee ritual in peace before the house wakes up.

After I stoke up the laptop I:

What’s your morning procrastination coffee ritual?

Mine’s a lot like yours. I check my email accounts, respond to comments, check Twitter and Plurk, then I scan my Google Reader to see what’s new, and visit other blogs to comment. It takes an hour, sometimes more if other blogs in my niche are having a particularly stellar posting day ;-)

My routine is different now than what I hope it will be in the near future. Right now I have a day job, so I get up at 5am, make coffee, scan the paper, shower, get the kids up, let the dogs out, and I’m off to work. Once at work I check email, scan google reader, and dive in.

I would imagine that once I’m working from home my routine will be similar, just all at one location :)

Ha, I’m in my morning procrastination right now! Having coffee, checking personal emails, responding to some work emails, etc. Mine doesn’t start at 6 though.

I don’t like getting up early, but I love the early morning hours. Does that make sense?

I’ve settled for a wake up time around 7. Coffee is first. I love my coffee. Then for me, it is check emails, look for jobs, check blogs and network, then check travel message boards. I travel a lot and this is the fun part for me. I like to vary my workouts so I get it in the mornings a few days a week. On those days I would insert that before the coffee. :)

I’m up at 5:30 to help get the kids ready for school. While they’re eating and showering, I check my email, make a list of things to do for the day, and sweep the accumulated dust off the floors, tables and bookcases. Then take the kids to school at 7, come home and have breakfast, and finally start writing.

My routine is pretty similar, but I have a page of frames which opens all my twitter-like sites and forums. I also check the weather forecast (I bike to meetings if possible) and finish by checking my cooperative’s task board for what I need to do next.
