Do You Really Blog in Your Pajamas?

I hate when people say, “Wow, you write at home! You’re so lucky to have such an easy job.”

Excuse me while I first laugh, and then implode. Yes, I am lucky. I LOVE what I do. It’s not easy though. The good thing about the statement above is that at least the person, while not very knowledgeable, is being straight forward. It’s the off-handed comments that bug me more. The whole, “You can take time off whenever”, or “Work in your pajama” comments. Those really irk me. To me, it always feels like the person is implying that I blog as a second thought, like I took blogging up so I can laze about. They might not mean it that way, but that’s how I feel.

Do bloggers really work in their pajamas? I don’t. Not ever. I simply work better and faster if I get dressed, brush my hair, and slap on some lip gloss. I feel more work-ready. If I stay in my pajamas I feel sort of lazy, and I find that I don’t blog as well.

What about you? Can clothing, or a lack there of, affect your blogging day?

I can relate with how those comments are irritating. However, I am a comfy-clothing home worker. While I don’t roll out of bed and into my desk chair, I often get up and put on comfy clothes.

I think it has to do with being at home for me. When I worked outside the home the second I hit the door I was in comfy clothes (warm-up pants, jammie pants). It wasn’t that I didn’t have anything else to do and could relax, I just prefer that kind of attire in my space. So far it hasn’t affected my productivity. Maybe that will change in the future. I don’t know.

I do not ever work in my pajamas. I get up every morning, dress, makeup, hair, the whole routine. I don’t even think that I would be able to string a coherent sentence together if I didn’t.

I decided over a year ago that I wanted this job to be a profession for me. The only way to make that happen is to be a professional, and that certainly includes getting dressed each day.

I have heard plenty of others say that they loved that about blogging and writing online though, so I guess there is a huge segment of the population that works that way.

I, too, always dress and wash up, brush my teeth, etc. just as if I was going out the door, except that I don’t put shoes on!

The few times I’ve had to race to the computer to do an interview and didn’t have time to clean up, I always felt like the person on the other end could tell. I need to feel like I’m together, in order to sound like I’m together.

Even though I work at home I find I need to get out of “home” mode and into “work” mode. To do that I get changed into comfortable clothes everyday. Maybe on the weekends I

Lip gloss for productivity–that must be what I’m missing! Good post, I know exactly how you feel.

I often do blog in my jammies because my work clothes are not comfortable in the least. I purposely wake early enough to be able to play before getting ready to go to work. Thus the jammies. By the time I’m off work I’m tired and want to have dinner and veg out for a little bit before retiring to bed.

@Joel LOL. Yes. Definitely a secret weapon!

I always get up and shower and put on jeans and a t-shirt before I start blogging - but I have always showered as soon as I got up.

@Lori well, my everyday clothes are pretty casual, so I get the whole comfy issue. Plus I do wear slippers, not shoes, but I just have to get dressed.

@Connie I haven’t heard too many bloggers say this, but I have heard writers of other things say that they like to write in pjs. Hmmm.

@Joel ha; I suggest cherry mango. I usually have nail polish on too - but we can discuss colors for that later. :)

@Everyone thanks for the comments; it looks like we lean towards clothes. Good thing no one is blogging naked!

I’m afraid I have to admit I never brush my hair before starting work, but if you’ve seen my mugshot then you’ll know why…as to pyjamas…hmmm…yes…occasionally. Lipstick? Only on very special occasions ;-)

If I dont’ put on clothes, including shoes, I’m not worth much when it comes to productivity. The face, teeth, dressing, etc tells my body to get with it. The few times I’ve tried to write in pj’s I’ve accomplished very little and it took most of the day to whip up any energy.

I am one of those who rolls out of bed and starts working. The majority of the time that I’m working, I’m wearing pajamas or a robe. I only put on “real” clothes to leave the house.

I treat working from home pretty much like I used to treat working at the university. A bit less formal than teaching at college, but tidy enough (unless it’s hot, in which case shorts are worn… I don’t like answering the door then).

The times I’ve rushed into work before being up and ready for the day - those are bad days, dealing with panics, and I probably won’t blog much on them.

Wow - I am the minority - I hate dressing up - and I never wear makeup for anyone - especially not for my professional job. I love being able to sit around in PJs or shorts 1/2 the morning - on the days I write at home I usually work in PJs for a couple of hours before I take a break and have a shower - its complete heaven! I have never understood why appearance is important in the corporate world and the freedom to wear PJ’s / track pants/ shorts is precious and worth the pay cut!

I like to work in jeans and a jumper, or something that looks neat but is comfortable. Have never been able to work in night attire; it just doesn’t feel right.

I love working at home too - been doing it a long time and it’s the longest ‘job’ I’ve ever held down since I left school in 1973.
